The shortage of houses throughout, the Dominion has become so acute that the Cabinet has agreed to an effort to aid the rapid construction of dwellings hy decreeing that in future practically only essential buildings arc to proceed. The decision of the Cabinet does not apply to buildings already in course of construction, il is understood that no new legislation will lie needed to give effect to the proposal, but that advantage, will be taken of the war regulation which makes it necessary for the,; approval of the Minister of Finance to bo secured when the erection of a building costing more than £3500 is contemplated. The now conditions are oxpecied to conic into force almost immediately.
