The magistrate (Mr McCarthy) sain the law was on the Statute Book, and must be observed. The other Lhree defendants were lined Tils each. AGREEMENT WITH TRAMWAYMEN. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Mayor 'Mr Luke) staled to-day that a complete agreement had been readied with* the Tramway Union on all points in dispute, and the new conditions will come into operation immediately. AN INSANE PRISONER. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. James Kirkman, a prisoner awaiting trial at, the Supreme Court on charges of forgery and theft, attempted suicide by hanging in the gaol yard this monning. 'On being brought before Mr Justice Sim later Ihe prisoner created a scene by using violent and obscene language. The Crown Prosecutor said the man was obviously insane, and Judge Sim remanded turn to the next silling of the Supreme Court. When Kirkman was before Ihe lower court al Cromwell he on two occasions atlempled to commit suicide with razor. A HEAVY FINE. FEILDING, Wednesday. Mr J. L.
