A prominent American business nan—- » Mr Irving T. Bush—who recently returned to New York after touring Germany, expresses -t 1 1 c opinion that Germany will soon recover, and urges America t i assist to that end. He went through the occupied territory tlrst, and then over the country, including the city of Frankfort. lie had been informed there was no merchandise in Germany, but found the warehouses packed witn it everywhere he went. The people went about their work in a quiet, determined manner and kept their grief to themselves. He never heard the German people complain about their losses through the war in lives or property, and they never discussed the Kaiser or the Crown Prince in his hearing. He says the country can best be described as the land without a smile, because he never saw a German man or woman laugh while he wa.3 n their territory. It is all right to nurse a hate and remember the sinking of the Lusitania and other atrocities of the war, but he says that if Americans wish Europe ami the world generally to recover from the effects of the awful struggle of the past live and a-half years then Ids countrymen must lend a hand lo the peoples of Central Europe to get back their trade and commerce. Food conditions were better in Germany. Meat was scarce and dear, but there was plenty of poultry at low prices. In the opinion of Mr Bush, Belgium will he the first country on the Continent lo recover from the war, and Germany will be the second.
Recovery of Germany.
