LOWER V/AIKATO RUGBY LEAGUE. NGARUAWAI.IIA V. TAUPIRI. At Taupiri on Saturday the Ng&ruawahia team defeated Taupiri •by IJ points to 2. The game was fairly even, but the Ngaruawahia harks proved superior ami handled 'the ball very well, being well catered for by the half-back, Bennett. Of the other Ngafuawohia backs, the veteran R. Fuller and Menzies'shono out prominently. The forwards were evenly matched, hut in the. first spell, although Taupiri succeeded in getting the ball out. Hie opportunities were not made use of.- jS. Wilson for Taupiri, played a good, hard defensive game, but lacked support to lake the initiative and attack. Altogether the game was a fast one, and, for the first match of the •season, a. good exposition of (lie League, game. For Ngaruawahia tries were obtained by H. Fuller, Menzies Graves, the latter, aided by his fast pace_ succeeding'in making a threeciuarter-fength run of the field and beating all opposition, while frenzies converted one—total, 11 points. For Taupiri M. Wilson kicked a peiftlty goal. The game was controlled by Mr Joll. The junior round is expected to start on the 22nd, but the draw has not yet been arranged. On Saturday next (in the senior round) Taupiri play the strong Iluntly combination at Iluntly, while Morotiu try conclusions with Ngaruawahia on the latter's ground.
