THE WELLINGTON MEETING. CUP AND TELEGRAPH PROSPECTS. At Trentham to-morrow the Welling- • (on Racing Club's summer meeting will open, for which the acceptances arc good numerically, and comprise much of the cream of horseflesh racing in the Dominion at the present time. When it comes to the principal event of the card, the Wellington Cup, selectors' choice is available over a field in which there are several performers who can be ticked off to run well. II was current prior to acceptance day thai the top-weight, Karo, would not he forward, but she has remained in so thai everything must be going favourably in her respect. The Demosthenes mare's recent running, form thoroughly warrants tier being posterl top-weight for the race." She had been doing all required of her on the tracks prior to leaving for Trentham, while Riccarbm reports had it that she had improved with her Ellerslie racing. Kilrush and Surveyor are both at very short prices. the Caul field Cup fourth of the latter behi'-' looked upon as sure grounds for (loins; .'.vreat things with 8.4 up. Aniythas, a triple winner of big handicips in the south, this season, is talked a lot about, but it lias to be remembered thai lliey were very poor class compared with what the colt is asked to run against to-morrow. Mascot one does not hear a great deal of favour over, but it can be taken for granted that she willl have a big say. Battle Sons and Red Ribbon are both reported sore, but, they will have to improve on their Auckland shovyings greatly, and for that will need to be in best buckle. Kilmoon is favourably talked' of, but to fhi' writer's mind the Kilbroney gelding will require to show more brilliancy than he has of late when the final burst of spec.| is on. Down among the lesser weights Punka and Oratress are both likely sorts, the latter having three wins in succession lately. Providing Punka gels a passage to her liking, she is fast, and can stay all right, but must have plenty of room. Whether she will gel it in the Cup Held m another matter, but she has to be labelled as dangerous as anything, with only 7.0 on her back.
In the Telegraph, over six furlongs, il looks as if Arrow-smith will go out. one of the hottest orders ever saddled un. Wo don't know the English horse's (Infinite capabilities, yet we are aware that he won his first couple of races in the Dominion in hollow fashion. Now there are many #ood sprinters in Hie Telegraph. If Arrowsmith is as cronrt as we are told', even 8.9 will not stop hfm winning. Spanner, who was in the boom as "the" snrinter lasl season, has only a pound more, so what of his chances? Then there are Tigritiya, the Auckland Railway, and Inah, the C..T.C. Stewards winners, vv'in cannot he Wt out. Acre 0.1. has now got Arrowsmith much nearer lo him and also it will be interesl.imr lo see if lie can beat Chimera (8.8), who was standing him up 131 b when Arrowsmith won at Awapuni.

THE HAMILTON MEETING. The Hamilton Racing Club has every reason to be gratified with the nominations that have come to hand for its two-days' meeting next month as they cover a standard which, it is safe to say, has never previously been attained' in the way of all-round excellence. Many of the best distance and sprint equines in the North Island are engaged, and the club's progressive policy in the matter of stakes has been amply rewarded. The principal event of the meeting, the Hamilton Cup, has attracted a nomination totalling 17 in number, quite half of whom will be strangers to local racing headquarters. By the time' the field lines up to the barrier it will be safe to predict thai it will be one of double-figmre dimensions, which will amply provide a race worth going a long way to see. Arrowsmith's name appears among the nominations for ftie meeting, and the appearance of the English importation in the sprints will be "looked forward to. Acceptances, which are due on February 3, follow the running at Takapuna so that there is yet adequate lime for turf followers lo take Hie latest guide through form of [lie interval before making definite selection for race days.
