LONDON, January 19. Nothing has been settled with the Food Controller regarding future contracts for New Zoalaml butter. _ Sir Thos. Mackenzie, in an interview, states that tiie situation is exceedingly firm, in view of the fact that the Home butter makers have been freed from control, and ot the Uontroller's recently expressed opinion that butter should not exceed 4s Gd per lb. The farmers suggested that it should be (is. The opinion held is that prices are likely to run to anything between 3s Gd and ss. There is a great demand for good butter, and New Zealand, with the reputation of her produce, can command a good price. As there has been a reduction of cattle in European .ountries, amounting to millions, it will take years to restore normal production. Even if the Controller does not make a reasonable offer for next season's butter, New Zealand produce will be on safe ground, because of the open market. It is expected that the shipping situation will then bo easier, and iwodueers _ may expect a considerable increase, in the price obtained under the existing contract. PRICE EN.NEW SOUTH WALES. (United Press Association.) Received January 19, 10.15 a.m. SYDNFA', Jan. 19. Butter prices have been fixed at: First grade 171 s, second H2s 0.1, an.l, third i(sßs.
