SHARP CONFLICT WITH MAHSUDS
SEVERE LOSSES ON BOTH' SIDES
ENEMY AGREE TO PEACE TERMS

An official communique says'that the Mahsuds, who are opposed to peace in Auai Tangi, number 3000. On the 14th the Derajaf column met strong opposition, anil hand-to-hand fighting followed. The enemy losses were about 400, including 130 killed. Our casualties were 370. After the fight the leading Mahsud Mahliks sent in a petition asking for peace, and guaranteeing to comply with our terms. ' The Mahsuds are believed to estimate their losses at 700 dead, up to the 13th. We made several successful air raids.
