MATAMATA TOWN BOARD

At the fortnightly meeting: of tiic Matauiata" Town Board,-the • members present were Messrs J. Price (chairman), J. F. Vosper, W. A. Gordon, J. Mclntyre, and G. G. Bell. It was resolved to congratulate Sir William Hemes on the honour conferred upon him. Factory Drainage.

The managing-director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., wrote that the matter of attending to the cheese factory drainage would be put in hand almost immediately. Messrs J. Nathan and Co. wrote seeking information re the proposed scheme. Mr Vosper spoke very strongly regarding the cheese factory nuisance, and said the state of affairs was simply disgraceful. He. would like to see something done to get the matter remedied. —lt was dceided to pay a-visit of inspection to both factories. Town Endowments. The Minister for Lands wrote in response to overtures made by the Board re setting aside certain sections for town endowments, that -section G 9 of the Land for Settlements Act prohibited the granting of the request. The letter continued that certain sections had, however, been withdrawn from sale, and the matter would be re-considered latere —It was decided to again approach Sir William Herries on the matter. Auctioneer's License. Messrs Dalgety and Co. forwarded £4O and an application for an auctioneer's license. —It was decided to thank the firm for taking out a license in Matarnota. Hampson's Sub-division. Mr M. H. Hampson. wrote in connection with the proposed concrete road, and stated that one person who had been expected to contribute towards the cost had now decided not to. He asked the Board if it would be prepare"! to increase its vote from one-third to half the extra cost. The Board decided to adhere to its original intention to contribute one-third of the - cost, and to canvass the ratepayers for the balance of the money (one-third of the extra cost for concrete over me-tal) amounting to about £C6.
