On her return il is expected that she will become the field secretary for the Dominion. Misses Alack and Levy, of Wellington, spent a few hours in Hamilton on Saturday. They visited the Ruakura Farm and the Lake, anil were greatly pleased with Hie beauties of Hamilton. They spent an enjoyable holiday in the thermal area. * * * * • The friends of Mr and Mrs Norman Russell, of Milton Street, will be pleased to learn that their little daughter] Marie, who has been seriously ill with . pneumonia since October 15, is this i week able to be up from bed. * OPEN CROQUET CHAMPIONSHIP. The Hamilton Croquet Club is • arranging for an open championship meeting to be played on the club’s lawns at the end of the month. Play will commence on January 27, and will, extend over several days. Entries for the tournament close with the secretary, Mrs T. F. Jolly, on January 22nd. Championship singles and doubles games will be played and they are open to members of any club in the Dominion. It is anticipated 1 that there will lie many visiting players to the _ tournament, including representatives of Christchurch clubs, while local and district players will be present in large numbers. These tournaments have always been very successful, and fine weather is all now that will be required to make the coming fixture quite up to the standard of its predecessors. WEDDINGS. LAURENCE—BARTON. Just before the close of the old year a quiet wedding was celebrated in St. Peter’s Church, Hamilton, by Ven. Archdeacon Cowie, when Mr N. Laurence, only son of Mrs Laurence, “The Manse,” Hamilton East, and Miss Marjorie Hope Barton, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. W. Barton, of Thackeray Street, Hamilton, were united. The bride, who wore a smartly cut costume of green gabardine with large brown hat, was given away by her father. Mr and Mrs Laurence spent the honeymoon in the South.

TUCKER —GIVEN. A pretty wedding took place at Aotea on Thursday, Bth inst., when Miss Annie Given was united to Mr W. Tucker, son of Mrs M. Tucker. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride’s parents, the pfllciating minister being Rev. G. Carr. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white voile, with a veil and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids were "Misses Myra Caddie and Minnie Dando, and Mr C. Given acted as best man. The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a cameo brooch, and to the bridesmaids gold pendants. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a gold lie-pin. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast was partaken of. and subsequently the young couple left on a honeymoon trip to Wanganui. KIRKER—HODGSON. My Horotiu correspondent writes: — A wedding of local interest took place during the holidays, the bride being Miss Alice Hodgson and the bridegroom Mr W. Kirkcr, locomotive driver at the freezing works. The youths of thdistrict did not fail to welcome them with tlie usual tin-can band, which is rather a strong feature at Horotiu weddings. CLARKE —FINDLAY. A quiet wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Te Awamutu, when Miss Eileen Findlay, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Findlay, of Korakonui, was married to Mr A. E. W. Clarke. The Rev. D. J. Shaw was the officiating clergyman. After the ceremony, the breakfast was partaken of at the Broadway tearooms, when the usual toasts were honoured. Miss Findlay was for some time on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Te Awamutu. RUSSELL—McCALLUM. At the residence of Mr C. S. McGallum, "Roscavey," Paterangi, on the 7th inst., a very pretty wedding was solemnised by Rev. N. D. McKenzie. The contracting parties were Mr Lcn Russell, son of Mr W. Russell, Hamua, Pahiatua, and Miss Tilda McCallum, youngest daughter of Mr G. S. McCallum. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a gown of white crepc-de-chine, with veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of white clematis and palest pink sweet pens. She was attended by her sister Cassie in a shell pink georgette frock, and also by Miss May Brown, of Hamua, in a dainty frock of cream georgette, as bridesmaids. Tiie bridegroom was supported by Mr Geo. McCallum, and Mr W. McKinnon. of Te Rore. After the ceremony a dainty lunch was partaken of, at which the usual toasts were duly honoured. The newly married couple then left by motor car for Rotorua, where their honeymoon will be spent. The bride travelled in a nigger brown costume and pale pink and brown mo'or bonnet. Among the numerous wedding gifts were several cheques and two handsome pieces of Royal Doulton ware, presented to the bride by the members of the church and choir of which the. bride was organist.
