Public Notices. LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT ENGINEER, HOROTIU FREEZING WORKS. The following are extracts from a letter from Mr Thomas Simson, of JJorotiui Superintendent Engineer of, the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, Ltd. /written to the directors while engaged on the company's business in America. The fact that Mr Simson is neither a ■teetotaller nor a prohibitionist adds .force to the testimony that he bears. The directors eabled to Mr Simson for permission to publish these extracts, consequently we are at liberty to make what use we like of them: — 3rd July, 1919. ■" . . . . San Francisco is bone dry. I have gone slumming in San Francisco, Chicago, Pittsburg, and New York, and have not seen anyone showing the effects of drink even, let alone being drunk. i suppose it is the perversity of human nature, but in Auckland where i could get all I wanted I seldom had a drink, but at night when I am hot and tired, I would willingly give 20s for a bottle of whisky, or even twice that amount, but then I wou.d not buy it if I could get it. The law is so good that I would not break The following cable message has been received from Mrs Gunson, Mayorcs of Auckland:: — " . ..'.'... After travelling 12,000. . -miles through 25 States find that Prohibition accepted as permanent, great reform because whole country benefited. Liquor antiquated. Make JS r ew Zealand up--to-.dnte.''
