PROTEST IN PARLIAMENT. (United Press Association.) Received August 9, 10.50 a.m. MELBOURNE, August 9. Simultaneous protests against the increased price of hides and leather were launched in the Senate and House of Representatives by Hon. A. Gardiner and Hon. F. G. Tudor, who moved for adjournments to discuss the grave situation which has arisen. Mr Tudor stated that since May last there has been an increase of 100 per cent in the prices of hides. Both motions were formally negatived. THE PRICE OF LEATHER. EFFECT OF AMERICAN PURCHASES (United Press Association.) (Received Ausust 8, 11.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 8. The price of leather is rising rapidly - owing lo American purchases of Australian hides, and will shortly result in an increase in the price of boots by at least 10s.
