WALTON. PEACE CELEBRATIONS. Good progress is being made with the peace celebration proposals, it being intended to hold a local demonstration so thai all residents will have the opl portunity to attend. A strong committee lias been set up, av.A a good programme is being prepared. There is also a committee appointed to prepare a suitable welcome home to the local reti rned soldiers, which it is intended to nold on 23rd May. THE SCHOOL. Mr. Jenkins, who has been appointed in the place of Mr Insull as .head ( teacher at the local school, has got well into his stride in the school work, and is interesting himself in local matters, which is much appreciated by the residents. ANZAC DAY. Anzac Day was recognised here, the residents meeting at the local school, the flag being hoisted lor the occasion. Mr Jenkins addressed the children, outlining the eventful landing of the Anzacs and the noble and brave part New Zealand and Australian soldiers had taken in the great war. Mr Lewis Mapp also spoke. The children were lined up, and all stood to salute, and then joined in singing "Nearer, My God, t,o Thee," and the National Anthem. Tiie ladies supplied afternoon tea. HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING. . The householders' meeting was poorly attended. Mr Lewis Mapp, chairman of* the outgoing eommitteo, presided. He read a report of the year's operation, and the secretary (Mr. Trapski) explained the financial position. These were considered satisfactory. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring committee. The new committee, wh'ch were elected by ballot, has already been published. PRIME BULLOCKS. Messrs Mears Bros, have loaded today (Tniesday) ■ for the Westfield a very fine pen of fat bullocks, estimated' to kill at Sicwt. It will be interesting to know what these cattle will bring on the market, as they are well done.
