RUSSIAN SITUATION
BOLSHEVIK ARMY SURRENDERS (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received April 30, 1.5 a.m.) LONDON, April 29. The Ukranian official Bolshevik army, operating in the region of Gomel, consisting mainly of peasants, surrendered with 20j000 rifles, 200 machine-guns; and 35 field guns.. Many of the prisoners offered to join the Ukrainians fighting against the Bolsheviks in the Zitomir district. ‘ LENIN AND TROTSKY ABOUT TO FLEE. BELIEVE BOLSHEVISM IS RUINED. (Australian and N.Z. Reports from neutrals state that , Trotsky and Lenin are about to flee from Russia, believing that Bolshevism is ruined. . < 1000 REFUGEES REACH MALTA. THEIR TERRORS DESCRIBED. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) Received May 1, il a.m. MALTA, April 29. A thousand refugees have arrived, from Russia, including some of the. noblest families. Three Russian countesses, who had been washing plates in a military hospital, describe the terrors from which they escaped.
