Questioned in the House of Commons regarding tlie Americans' refusal to co-operate with the Japanese when attacked by the Bolsliev : near Blagoryeschensk, Mr Winston Churchill said the American commander thought the forces might be insurrectionary peasants mistaken for Bolsheviks. Ei-Commarider Wcdgewood asked for an assurance that British troops would co-operate with the Americans, but not with the Japanese.
Cries of "Oh!" Mr Wedgcwood: "Because they are white men." Mr Churchill said the matter must be left to the discretion of the officers on the spot. In this instance it was undoubtedly a well-armed force of Bolsheviks.
