CITY OLUE’S DIMMER. •On Friday evening members of the City Football Club were entertained at dinner in the Broadway Tea Rooms by their vice-president, Mr P. Jones. There was a very large attendance, a pleasing feature of which was the presence of several soldier members of the club who had returned after servi ing their country. Representatives of , the Rugby Union and Referees’ Association were also' present. Mr Colin Speigitt presided. The club performed very creditably in last .season’s competitions, winning the Sago Memorial Cup of the senior i grade, the Elliott Shield for tire junior competition and the caps' presented by the Union .as winners in the supplementary round of the junior competition, A noteworthy feature of last night’s function was the presence of the original donor of the Sage Memorial Cup, Mr J, W. Bright, who presented it for club competition as far back as the 1004 season. Mr Bright,, who was loudly applauded at last night’s function, handed the cup over to the club captain, Mr A. Buckingham, and wished the same keen spirit of competition for possession in the future. Mr Crawford, vice-captain, accepted the trophies won by the juniors. During the evening, among the toasts proposed and responded to were: “The King,’-’ “Army and Navy,” “Returned Soldiers,’- “Rugby Union,” and “The Host,” The toasts were interspersed with musical items by various members of the gathering, while quite a leading feature of the entertainment was a display of dumbed! swinging, balancing, juggling and trick piano playing by Professor N. Tate, of Auckland, who holds an appointment under the Board of Education to present lids particular phase of exercise and entertainment to juveniles. Violin solos by Mr VV. R. Fox (with Mr G. Leek accompanying at the piano) brought forth well merited applause. AH* Dent officiated at the piano. The function was a very happy one, and was brought to a conclusion with the singing of .the National Anthem.
