PRELIMINARY TREATY. MAY BE READY THIS WEEK. FIXING GERMAN EXPORTS. WIDELY DIVERGENT VIEWS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 27, 12.45 a.m. PARIS, March 25. Colonel House, in an interview, thought that the preliminary peace treaty might be, ready by Saturday and the German delegates be here three weeks hence. A commission of live members will visit Syria to obtain an idea of the people’s desire as regards the mandatory. The Committee appointed to deal with the German shipping will have its headquarters at Rotterdam, not Hamburg. The Economic Commission is faced with a great difficulty in drawing up the list of goods which Germany may not export. The Allied views on this matter are widely divergent. Americans take a mild view. While the British view is moderate, others desire, a stringent list. The Council of Ten is still engaged on the Polish question. SIMULTANEOUS PRESENTATION. It is stated that the Allied plenipotentiaries have virtually decided to ■present the Peace Treaty simultaneously to enemy Powers. A LEAKAGE. MR LLOYD GEORGE ANNOYED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 27, 9.40 a.m. PARIS, March 26. It is reported that Mr Lloyd George is expressing to the Council of Ten his resentment at the leakage, whereby the newspapers learned of his Polish opinions. He threatened to secure the removal of the Conference elsewhere, possibly to the country, NO UNDUE RISKS. GUARDING ITALY’S INTERESTS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 27, 11.45 a.m. LONDON, March 26. Viscount Milner, Secretary of State for Colonies, in the House of Lords said that it was impossible to reduce the army and navy considerably, as peace was still distant. PARIS, March 26. Plans are afoot to join Austria, Hungary, Turkey, Bulgaria and Germany under a single peace treaty, in order to meet Italy’s objections to the omission of her special interests in Austria from the . first , agreements. MESOPOTAMIA AND PALESTINE. CONFERENCE WITH GENERAL ALLENBY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 27, 11.25 a.m. PARIS, March 25. General Allenby paid a hurried visit to Paris, and conferred with the members of the Conference. He supplied first-hand information regarding_ Palestine and Mesopotamia. LITTLE PROGRESS. MADE BY REPARATION COMMITTEE (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 27,. 11.25 a.m. PARIS, March 25. The Reparation Committee has practically made little pro'gress; indeed it has not yet arrived at an agreement in principle, and it may end in the Council of Ten having td solve the problem.
