POLICEMEN TO STRIKE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received August 31, 12.20 a.m. LONDON, August 29. The Policemen's Union has decided to strike for recognition of the union and higher pay. The officials expect that 4000, will'strike immediately. A SUDDEN DEVELOPMENT. GENERAL STRIKE IN LONDON. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received August 31, 1.20 a.m. LONDON, August SO. Apparently the police strike is fairly general in Ixmdon. It developed suddenly at midnight. WOMEN'S WAGES RAISED. EQUIVALENT WITH THE MEN'S. (Australian and N.Z. and Reuter.) Received August 31, 1.30 a.m. LONDON, August 80. The Press Bureau states that the Committee on Production has awarded the women tramway and omnibus work, ers an advance of 2/5s weekly over prewar rates, thus equalising the rates with male workers. The Government has appointed a committee to investigate and report on the relation between the wages of women and men generally.
