A MYSTERIOUS FIRE. By Telegraph—Press Association. CARTERTON, Wednesday. The Borough Council Chambers were completely destroyed by fire early this morning. When the outbreak was discovered the fire had too great a hold and the building was razed to the ground. The contents were consumed, nothing being saved. Maunsell, Hart and Hogg, solicitors, liad offices in the building. They also lost everything, including a valuable law library, ihe origin of the fire is a mystery.

FATAL MOTOR COLLISION. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A collision occurred last night l>etween two motor cyclists, each with a side chair, one ridden by W. Carrington and the other by Charles Begg. Both men were thrown over the handlebars, and Begg was unconscious when he was picked up in the side-channel and died after admission to the hospital. His wife was in the side-chair but was not injured. Begg, who was about 39, was employed in a responsible position in the city electrical department. He was well-known in Dunedin, where his family resided in North-East Vallev for manv vears.
