Fifteen Fijian natives, followers of a new religion, making Saturday and Sunday both rest days, have been sentenced to imprisonment, and one to 18i months on charges of seditious utterances. A fire destroyed a sod whare at Hiverhead A man and woman, believed to be Jack Reid, aged 40, and Sarah OeniSj aged 57, were I turned to death THE APPEAL COURT. NEW ZEALAND WINE LICENSES. WELLINGTON, Monday. In Crawford v. Nuttall and ChallLs v. Nuttall, cases affecting New Zealand wine licenses, the Appeal Court held that in respect of sales made to Crystal and McKcndy the appellants had not made out that the Magistrate's decision was erroneous in point of law and the appeal must be dismissed. In respect of the sale to Mrs Cramp, the appeals were allowed and the cuii. victions were set aside.
THE OAMARU TRAGEDY. PROGRESS OF THE VICTIMS. NO TRACE OF MAYHEW. OAMARU, Monday. The condition of Miss Mary Burke, one of the victims of the Gemmel's Crossing tragedy, who was shot tluoiiiih the lung, is much improved. She is in good spirits. Mrs Bamlnuv i-' making good progress. A piece of load, believed to he a soft-nosed bullet, was extracted from her wound at the bcirinning of the week. No trace of the suspect Mayhew has \et in-en found.
