/ TERRITORIALS. The following promotions have been made : 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles. Privates J. Jamiason, J. Corboy, J. Young to be sergeants; and Private A. D. Jamieson to be corporal. 79th Company (Te Awamutu) Sanior Cadets. Temporary Company SergWant-major W. H. Groves to be company sergeantmajor; Temporary Sergeants J. D. Macky and A. Wallis to be sergeants; Temporary Corporal E. J. Perry to !;• corporal; Cadets T. Ireland, R. Dicky, to be sergeants; and Cadets J. Lang, muir, W. Paul, and Linton to be lance, corporals. When Colonel Campbell mentioned the name of Lieutenant-Colonel Sleoman to the Defence Expenditure Commission in Wellington tho chairman, Brigadier-General Sir Robert Anderson, asked:—"ls that the author of a number of text books which are in universal use?" Colonel Campbell indicated that this was the samo officer. "He was at the MarneP"—"l believe so." "New Zealand is very lucky to have a man like that out here," remarked the chairman. "He is a man who would be invaluable in the camps —we have heard that their need is just such a man-" When Colonel Campbell explained that Colonel Sleeman's duties at present comprised the training of officers and men of the Territorials and Senior Cadets, the chairman expressed surprise. '.' Colonel Kleeman is not only a man of experience but a distinguished officer. You have power to run a railway engine running a sowing machine there."
