DISTRICT NEWS

MORRINBVILLE. Householders' Meeting. There was a large attendance of householders at the annual meeting. Resolutions of svmpathy with the headmaster (Mr D.K. Campbell) and with .Mrs J. C. Allen were passed. The balance-sheet showed a credit oi £ll Gs 3d at the end of the year. The secretary's report stated that the inspector had given a very favourable report, but had commented on the overcrowded state of the school. Eighteen children had obtained proficiency certificates, only one failing. An alleged grievance re farmers' children being kept in was ventilated, and it was moved that no child be detained after a-quarter past three.. The headmaster pointed out that it was absolutely necessary that a child should complete each day's work before leaving, otherwise at the end of the year it would be all behind.—The motion was lost, only three voting for it. The resolutions forwarded to all the householders' meetings re increased staffing, single classrooms, large salaries for teachers, etc., were passed, but the one dealing with apprentices compulsorily attending day classes—technical and continuation—was turn, ed down.

Votes of thanks to, and appreciation of the past services of, the retiring committee were passed by acclamation. The result of the election has already been published.
