N.Z. FARMERS' UNION
MORRINSVILLE BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Farmers' Union took place on Saturday evening, Mr J. Bell (president) occupying the chair. The Provincial Union secretary wrote urging that a committee be set up to advise returned soldiers.—Action already been taken. Mrs G. Howie reported that about £7O was in sight from the town and country for the sufferers by the Haetihi fire.— Decided to close the list on April 30th. A vote of sympathy with Mr Lang, of Tauhei, on the death of one son and the wounding of another was passed; also one to Mrs J. C. B. Watt on the death of her husband. It was resolved to write to Hon. W. H. Herries reminding him of his promise to have repairs effected to the station yards.
Annual Meeting. The annual meeting was then held. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £7 10s Bd, was adopted. Votes of appreciation for past services by the retiring president and secretary were passed. Six guineas was voted to the secretary, Mr Leeson, but he declined to accept any recognition of his services.
Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr W. McLachlan; vicepresident, Mr T. Parkinson; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. F. .Stark; executive, Messrs Cameron, W. S. Philpott, and W. Howie; auditor, Mr S. Ferguson.
It was decided that the bond given by five members in connection with the bank overdraft be for one year only. The retiring secretary said that under the new arrangement 17s 6d of each subscription was to go to the subProvincial Union; the branch would not be able to finance on the remaining 2s Gd per member.—lt was decided to go into the matter of finance at the next meeting.
