HEAVY ARTILLERY FIRE, WITH SOME LOCAL FIGHTING. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) Received April 23, 8.30 p.m. LONDON, April 22. The United Press correspondent states that the general situation on the battle front is unchanged. There was tremendously heavy gun-fire southward of Arras at night time, followed by nasty local fighting m the region o Avelung Wood. The fighting was recommenced at dawn, and the shelling continues along the whole line, particularly around the \pres, Hebuterno, Golincamps and Yillers Bretonneux areas, out front-lines being consistently belaboured. ENEMY RAIDS REPULSED AT VARIOUS POINTS. ENEMY CAPTURE A HOTLY-DISPUTED ADVANCE POST. BRITISH LINE SLIGHTLY ADVANCED AT ROBECQ. (Australian and New Zealand and Reuter.) Received April 23, 8;,30 p.m. LONDON, April 22, 10 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports that we repulsed raids in the neighbourhood of Hamel, south of the La Bassee Canal, and opposite Cambrai. Tue enemy captured an advanced post north-west of Festubert which had trendy changed hands several times. We advanced our line slightly at Bobecq.
