BOWLING
FRANKTON BOWLING CLUB. The official opening of the Frankton Junction Bowling Club took place on Saturday, and was favoured with an exceptionally fine day. Mr Fraser Smith, president, in opening the green, welcomed the visitors. In his remarks he said that nine members of the Club-had gone to the front, and out of these nine he was glad to say that two had returned (Mr G. Miles and Mr C. Aitken), and they were playing that afternoon. Three cheers were given for the bovs at the front, and the orchestra, under the direction of Mr Scott, then plaved the National Anthem, in which both the bowlers and the-visitors heartily joined. , Mrs Fraser-Smith then threw a silvered kitty, and the green was duly declared open. The visiting teams were from Hamilton, Whitiora, Cambridge and Ngaruawahia. Although the fortunes of war were against Frankton, some, good and exciting games were played. The orchestra rendered a number of most acceptable items during the afternoon. The greens were decorated with a number of flags kindly lent by Captain H. Thompson, and the good things provided by Mrs Fraser-Smith all tended to make the afternoon one of the most pleasant and enojyable of its kind. The following are the results of the games, the Frankton teams being given last:— J. Holmes, Thorpe, Gould. Clavis (sk). Ngaruawahia, 255, c. Tristram, T. Johnson, Faville. Fraser-Smith (sk). 24.
