10,697 PRISONERS IN AUGUST. 311 GUNS CAPTURED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received September 3, 12.40 a.m. LONDON, Sep. 2. Sir Douglas Haig reports that we successfully raided eastward of Wytschaete where he bombed dug-outs, and our machine-gunner® attacked the escaping garrison. We repulsed raiders southwestward of Lavricourt. Our aerial activity was resumed yesterday. The British have taken prisoner 7279, of whom 158 are officers, making 10,697 persons, including 2134 officers taken since the morning of July 31. Thirtyeight guns, including six heavy pieces, 200 machine guns, and 73 mortars were captured.
