TAUPIRI. Progressive League. At the monthly meeting of the Progressive League there was a fair attendance, presided over by the presidnt, Mr W . A. Lovoll. Word was received from the Kirikiriroa Road Board that it was impracticable to erect speed notices to motorists at certain dangerous corners in the township, as noither the Board nor the County Council had any by-laws dealing with the matter.— It was decided to communicate with the Auckland Automobile Association. The secretary reported having seen Mr J. McGregor, chairman of the Road Board, with reference to certain representations of the League with/ regard to road matters.—,Tbo result was deemed satisfactory. Other matters of less importance were left in the hands of the secretary and chairman to deal with. Ecclesiastical. The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese (Rev. Dr. Averill) administered the rites of confirmation in Christ Church, Taupiri. on Tuesday aftornoon. There were candidates from Ngaruawahia, Taupiri, Huntly, and Orini, and a large congregation affembled. The Bishop delivered an eloquent and powerful Aermon on "The Duties and Responsibilities of Christian Citizenship." On Thursday, Mr Broome-Smith, F.R.G.S., a missionary who had spent nearly 30 years in West Africa, gave a very interesting lecture on hi', life's work. It was illustrated by some excellent lantern slides.
