MEDICAL SERVICE
I • 7 SCHEME OF ORGANISATION.
(By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Saturday. The New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, being desirous of providing a sufficient number of doctors to satisfy the requirements of the military and civil authorities during the war, appointed a committee representative of the profession throughout New Zealand to draw up proposals to submit to the Government. The committee made a series of tentative proposals which the Government could not accept in their entirety. The committee further considered the matter
during the last few days and, after hearing the views of the Minister of ffefcalth, have now made further recommendations, the principal of which' are that an Advisory Board consisting of six members of the Medical Association be set up to which the military and civil authorities can apply from time to time for advice and assistance; that medical ,-tlfen be enrolled with a view to their being called up compulsorily as required for military sen-ice, provided a man so called shall have the right to appeal to the Advisory Board; that it be a condition of registration that the services of the applicant be placed at the disposal, firstly of the Minister of Defence, and secondly of the Minister of Health. The committee cannot agree to th««fi£oposid of the Minister of Health
hat the profession be mobilised for purpose of transferring medical J from districts already adequately Supplied to districts where there is a scarcity of practitioners, as this would mean treating the profession in a way entirely different Lorn other classes of the community.
