BRITISH TRADE BANK
A MIXED RECEPTION. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received May 18, 8.40 p.m. LONDON, May 18. In the House, of Commons Sir A. Stanley, President of the Board of Trade, emphasised the importance of the proposed trade corporation. The leading banks, lie said, were practically unanimous in supporting the scheme. A fundamental change would be necessary in British business methods after the war. The Government would support but not control the corporation, which would secure credits for traders which it had been impossible to obtain formerly, and which would put British traders on equal terms with foreigners. Several speakers described the scheme as a dangerous and mischievous innovation.
