DEPUTATION TO MINISTER.
CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK

Replying to a deputation from the local Freezing Companies, re the allocation of shipping space and direct Auckland representation on the shipping committee, the Hon. A. L. Myers stated that a conference will be held next week between the National Efficiency Board, the Hoard of Trade, and the Requisitioning Committee, with a view to submitting a report dealing with the provision of storage for meat and dairy produce. The conference will also consider the policy that the f!i>vernment should recommend to be carried out by farmers in the immediate future regarding the loading, holding and killing ot stock, and matters relating to agricultural and pastoral industries generally. COMMANDEERED VESSELS. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. AUCKLAND, Friday. The Hon. A. L. Myers, Minister for Munitions, states that the Imperial athorities had no intention of commandeering a certain large steamer engaged in the New Zealand mail and passenger service. They had, however, already commandeered four out of five cargo vessels trading between the Pacific Coast and New Zealand. He also stated that arrangements had been made with two shipping companies to convev wheat from Australia to New Zealand, and to carry 30.(1(10 tons of coal from Newcastle everv month.
