EXPULSIONS FROM JAFFA. THOUSANDS STARVING. HELP URGENTLY NEEDED. f (By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Friday. His Excellency the Governor has received the following cable from the British High Commissioner in Egypt:— "During the Passover the entire Jewish population at Jaffa were expelled towards the north. Their houses and property were sacked, and the population while in flight were robbed with the connivance of the Turkish authorities. Any Jews who resisted being pillaged were, hanged. Thousands are wandering helplessly on the roads and starving. The overcrowding of the colonies is increasing the misery and disease. Masses of young Jerusalem Jews have been deported northwards, their destination being unknown. "Eminent British authorities favour the constitution of special local committees to gather funds for the relief of the Jewish population, whose plight is lamentable, and to remit funds immediately to Professors Weizmann and Manchester, for a special committee, care of General Headquarters, Cairo." A special meeting of the committee of the Auckland Hebrew Congregation will be held on Monday to raise funds for the relief of their co-religionists.
