Mr Hughes announced that the definite policy of the Government is to develop Australian production and industry to the fullest extent by amending the tariff as far as is' necessary to attain this end and to secure the full fruits of victory when won. VIOLENT EARTHQUAKES. Received May 4, 11.10 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 4. Violent earthquakes were recorded on Wednesday and Thursday at a distance of 1600 miles.
