AFFAIRS IN GREECE
VCNEZELOS REFUSES TO COUNTENANCE THE KING. CONSTANTINE SURROUNDED RY PRO-GERMAN PLOTTERS. FRESH CABINET PROPOSED TO APPEASE THE ENTENTE. SECRET STORES <JF AMMUNITION CONTINUE TO RE FOUND. "ENGLAND HAS NOT YET DECIDED AGAINST US." Received May 1, 11.50 p.m. LONDON, May 1. Messages from Athens report an extraordinary condition of affairs. Probably M. Zaimis will accept the Premiership, at the King's urgent request, and will offer portfolios to the Yenezelists. These rumours were telegraphed to M. Yenezelos, who replied that it was impossible for King Constantino to remain in his position. It is well known in Entente circles that Conslantine is surrounded by a pro-German coterie. It has been suggested to exile Dousmanis, Gounaris, Scouloudis and other plotters, but it is considered doubtful if the pro-German influence would thereby be eliminated, as it is almost certain others would take their places around the King. The Palace is a regular rendezvous of German officers.. General von Falkenhayn visits constantly, secretly traversing the neutral zone. Other German officers bring money from reservists, who recently received £2OOO sterling. Secret stores of ammunition continue to be found, and other stores arc known to exist. Dousmanis, who is still the pro-German arch-conspirator, said recently: "Don't abandon hope, we are still in the saddle. England has not decided definitely against us yet."
