WELLINGTON, Tuesday. , When interviewed to-day on the pro- A posal of a Christchurch syndicate to re- ™ lieve the Government of its awkward |£ responsibilities as mine owner by purchasing the State coal mines, the Minister of Mines, asked whether the Government was inclined to part with its possession, said: "I have been approached on the subject quite seriously by financial people, but will not discuss the question with them in the meantime." Questioned regarding the reported offer by a syndicate to purchase the Runanga State coal mine, Sir Jas. Allen said, "I know nothing about it. It has " not been before mc in any way whatever."
