SILVER BULLET CANNONADE

LAST NIGHT'S FUNCTION. % Large crowds lined the streets of Hamilton last evening to witness the procession, under the auspices 6f the Silver Bullet Cannonade. At about - half-past seven the procession started I off from London street, and to the inspiriting music supplied by the Frank. ton Band (Bandmaster Donovan) marched along Victoria and Grantham streets to the traffic bridge. It is to be regretted that several of the promised tableaux failed to materialise, but that of Britannia, put on the Hamilton East committee, was of high merit, and won many plaudits along the line of route. The fire brigade turned out in force, and with their torches made a good display. At the Town Hall.

The various items staged were wellreceived, and the audience was most enthusiastic, demanding in most cases encores. Miss Maud Edwards scored

a great hit in "Whistle It," and received a floral tribute. The audience practically took charge of the chorus. "Pack up Your Troubles in Your OH" Kitßag" was another favourite by a squad of Bed Cross nurses, the solo . being sung by Miss Luxford. The ; Human Statuary was again staged by special request. "The Soldier," sung by Miss Edwards, supported by a chorus and dance ,made a hit, the audience ' joining in the chorus most heartily. The programme concluded with the song and march, "The Allies," which was song by Miss Luxford. t •

To-night the* programme will be changed, and the public can look for-

ward to the best shilling's worth "ever offered to the Hamilton public. The programme will include magic and " sleight-of-hand creations by Mr W. » Lints. Among the.sleights will be the cage and canary act, rising cards, and the fairy star. As the price of admission is only Is to all parts of the hall, children half-price, the Town Hall should be well filled.

At the Ferry Bank. Despite the many counter-attractions a fairly large crowd assembled on Ferry. Bank," where a host of eager salesmen did a good business at "Paddy's Market," and the various side-shows did a brisk trade. Shirt trips on the, river attracted considerable patronage. The tug-o'-war was won by the Hamilton Brigade. In the first round Hamilton Brigade beat Frankton Brigade; in the ' second round Whitiroa beat Hamilton East. In the final, after a real good struggle the Hamilton Brigade beat Whitiora. The Whitiora Guards have" issued a challenge to pull the brigade or any other army on Saturday night. The excellent programme discoursed by the Frankton Municipal Band was greatly enjoyed and many encomiums were passed upon their performance. The lighting effects carried out by Mr Wilson gave the bank quite a brilliant appearance, and as the admission is free to-night there should be a big crowd to listen to the band, and witness the various displays.

The new nozzles have arrived from England, and the Hamilton Fire Brigade will be able to demonstrate the . strength of their pressure to-night. ' River excursions will be continued.

v The 16th (Waikato).. Regimental Band (under Bandmaster Salter) will march from West End store to Ferry Bank, and will then play a choice pro- j gramme of music.

SWIMMING SPORTS. ' For the swimming sports carnival to be held in the baths to-morrow afternoon, the Hamilton Amateur Swimming Club have arrangements well forward, and a varied programme will be run off, including. several novetly events; also an exhibition of the Monte Christo act by Mr William Lints (Mr Lints is a holder of the Award of Merit in the Royal Life Saving Society).
