AMERICA ALARMED AT ALLIES' PLANS FOB POST-WAR TRADE!
Business men in the States are viewing the post-war plans of the Allies with alarm, and are making close investigations, in order to prevent, as far as possible, the threatened loss of trade. It is lor the British people to decide whether the Allies protective scheme will bo sucessful or not. Britain has paid dearly for her generous good nature in allowing Germany to dump goods into the country to he sold at prices that no British firm could hope to compele against. Millions of pounds of British money have gone into German coffers, and are now being used in the attempt to smash up the Empire. And, to a very large extent, the lesson has been lost upon us, for even now hundreds of thousands of pounds are going to America annually for Motor Tyres alone. The United States and Britain are friendly nations, bound by ties of blood, but that is no reason why American Motor Tyre manufacturers should so flood the Dominion with tyres (£104,712 worth in 191o!) when there are British Empire plants well able to supply more than sufficient to meet all our requirements. It is well-known, too, that throughout the world the phrase "British made" is the highest type of tribute to qualify.
