THAMES CASES. MOSTLY DISMISSED. (Ity 'I olograph—Press Association. THAMES, Tuesday. I lie Military Appeal Hoard (o-day /Hard 24 eases, mostly of farmers, alleging undue hardship. Most of the appeals were dismissed, time to make arrangements being given. Two appeals were sustained under the Statute, as there, was only one son at home, the others heing at the front. Two miners at Wailii appealed as religious objectors, bue did not turn up, and the r.ppeals were dismissed. WORK TO BE SPEEDED UP. STATEMENT BY HON. J. ALLEN. . DUNEDIN Tuesday. Hon. •las. Allen, Minister for Defence, in an interview, said that as the result of experience the work of the Military Appeal Boards would be speeded up. After the first two ballots 74/000 men were in the Ist division, and, allowing a per centage for unfits and essential it workers he reckoned this number would suffice for seven months. Two additional Medical Boards would be appointed for Auckland and Nelson, and j-f wherever necessary this policy would fl be extended. The Minister stated that the question of medical examination ff preceding the hearing of appeals was ope open to discussion, hut it would, be % given careful consideration. T .' -iii
