Lieut.-Colonel J. C. Hughes, .D.5.0., C.M.G., is one of a large party of golfers visiting Hamilton to play on the St. Andrew's links, at Ta Rapa. The Medaille Militaire was presented to Sergeant-Major Boa to by the Minister lor Defence, at a largely-attended parade in the Domain, Auckland, on Saturday. Mr A. Clark, well-known in the Motumaoho district, who pined one of the Australian contingents, has been '. reported as missing since July 19. Dr. Walls, of Morrinsville, has heceded to a request from the Defence Department that he should act as one of the medical officers at the Feathemen camp for a few weeks. Hon. Geo. Jones, M.L.C., the original proprietor of the Waikato Times,°and -Mrs Jones, who have been spending some weeks in Potorua, from which they have greatly benefited, passed through Hamilton to-day on their vay south. Senior-Sergeant J. J. Cassels, of Hamilton, left for Auckland to-day, to be in attendance at the trial of the natives, which arises out of the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the Maori prophet Pua in the Urewera country several months ago. Mr William Petty, of Auckland, whose death occurred at his daughter's residence (Mrs Guy Heighton), 32, Prospect Terrace, Ponsonby, at the age of 88 years, came to New Zealand 53 years ago from Victoria, and lived at Hamilton, Waikato, where he served in the Armed Constabulary for nine years. Later he worked for the Northern Holler Mills, Auckland, for the last 26 years. Deceased leaves a widow and grown-up family.
