Mr R. McCallum, member for Wairau, arrived in Hamilton yesterday, and will spend a few days on his Woodlands property. Captain Donald Simson, who is wellknown in connection with the work for return.Hl soldiers, left Wellington yesterday for England to rejoin his regiment. Dr. Walls, of Morrinsville, whose services have been offered to the Defence Department, left for the Featherston camp by the Main Trunk on Thursday, in response to a message requiring him to report himself for duty. Dean Walter Williams, of tho School of Journalism of the University of Missouri, and first president of tho Press Congress of the World, hopes to visit this Dominion, either before or after the next sessions of the congress at Sydney. _At the Waikato Winter Show Association's meeting yesterday the president, Mr W. J. McKee, stated that he was unable to see his way to again allow himself to be nominated for the position of president. At the request of the executive, Mr F. ff. Pemberton has been nominated for tho office. Mr Pemberton has been an active member of the association since its inception and the executive are to be congratulated upon their choice. Mr John -Martin Croucher, who died recently, was an old and highly respected resident of Richmond, Nelson. For many years lie was in business as a baker and flourmiller. He took a keen interest in all matters connected with the advancement. of the borough and district. He formerly took an active part in local matters, and was Mayor of Richmond for a lengthy period. He represented Richmond on tne Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and was a member of the Nelson Agricultural Association. The deceased bad reached the age of 73.
