If only the dock could lie converted into a marketable proHamilton's duct, the Hamilton Garden Borough Council Thoroughfares, would earn a great source of revenue i'rom» the crops that could lie gathered in the thoroughfares alone. The Counril appears to have adopted a scientific method of cultivation, not practiced elsewhere, which is to rip up a street in the autumn, and after leaving it to fallow during the winter months, to the great discomfort of residents, to then top-dress if with cinders or sand, by a process peculiar to Hamilton alone. The result is that a prolific outcrop of young plants quickly appeal's on the surface, and soon the thoroughfare is an area of thriving foliage. An excellent example of this method of cultivation is to tic had in Alexandra street, where quite recently a sum of something like £3OO was spent in improvements. The thoroughfare now is a study in botanical varieties. Should the street ever lie required for the practical purpose of vehicular or pedestrian traffic it will cost almost the amount of the recent improvements to put in order. unless some action be taken immediately. with the ultimate object in view of putting the street to some practical purpose.
