WAIKATO HUT
VICTORIA LEAGUE APPROVAL. COLLECTION AM) CANVASS. The scheme for providing a "hut" tor the use of Waikato men on the Western front was further discussed by a large meeting of Victoria League members at the Hospital Chambers. Hamilton, vesterda> afternoon. Mr 11. .1. Wemham, president of the League, occupied the chair. The Chairman outlined the proposal as submitted by the Y.M.C.A., under whose auspices and control the hut will be erected and conducted. The scheme, briefly, is to provide tloOO in the Waikato, taOO of which will be subscribed by Cambridge, V.."> 00 by Hamilton, and the remaining IT>OO by the smaller centres. These "huts," so termed, are social halls, containing many comforts which Ihe men, in ordinary circumstances. Would have In do without. Mr Wernham commended Hie scheme to the favourable consideration of the meeting, and explained thai Ihe local patriotic society had decided lo r.-sist the project. Mr 11. Valder, a delegate from the local patriotic society, advocate,) a personal canvass for funds. After some discussion, in which a number of other suggestions for obtaining the necessary amount of money were put forward, it was decided lo make a personal canvass on Friday, September Bth, lo be followed by a street collection on Saturday, the 9fh. It was also decided to ask the Waikato Times to open a "hid" subscription list.
