Received .luly 28, B.lu p.m. LONDON, July 28. The capture of Pozieres distinctly improves our position on the Somme. It i> believed that we are through the Germans' most elaborate defences/ The Germans, doubtless, are feverishly working I'or miles behind, but they will hiive no time to create anything like what is past. "I am," says the correspondent, "well informed in saying that we need not be afraid of anything 11i,. y ean rr:\.te, but they haw enormously massed their in'antry, which is now our most serious problem." The Westminster Gazette «, military correspondent says the capture of Pozieres iii.iv prove decisive. Pozieres and Longueval command the main roads converging on Uapaimm, whilst Foureaux Wood commands the cross road running between them. Their capture enables our attack to gather weight and momentum in falling on the open agricultural country, requiring massed fores to resist it. The capture of Pozieres decides the crux of the battle in our favour The Daily Mail's correspondent at Amsterdam slates that two divisions of infantry and HIOO I Mans have left the Ghent district, going southwards. There is a continuous stream of men and guns en raute for the Somme, 100 heavy guns and two divisions having traversed the Ghent railway in two days. The Germans have suspended passenger communication with Belgium and Holland, and the most stringent restrictions are imposed on the inhabitants of Flanders and North France. 11 is believed that the majority of the Belgian garrisons have been sent to the firing line.
