Mr K. Sweeney, formerly stationed ui the lelegraph Office at Hamilton, and later of Auckland and Mercer, has been called up lor service as a wireless operator. Air Sweeney has three brothers with the army "somewhere in France."

Word has been received that Lieut. Atliol Hudson, son of the late Dr. Hudson and Mrs Hudson, of Tapawera. lias been killed in action. Lieut. Hudson, who was an old boy at Nelson College and Waitaki High School, was selected as the 1915 Rhodes scholar from Victoria College.

An interest : ng little function took place last evening at the Horse Bazaar. Hamilton, at a -p- ->';< l parade of the No. 1 phitoi n of :■'.-. Ki:h (Waikato) Regiment, when Lieut. A. \Y. Smith was presented by the members of the platoon with an automatic revolver of the latest pattern. Company Sergt.Major K. P. Each', in a short speech, expressed the good wishes of the men to Lieut. Smith, who has been appointed to command a company in the 19th Reinforcements, and who prior to his appointment to the Expeditionary Force was the officer in command of No. 1 platoon. On behalf of the platoon Sergt.-Major Eade asked Lieut. Smith to accept of the gift as a small token of the esteem he was held in by the men of the platoon under his command. Lieut. Smith, in thanking the men for their expression of goodwill and their handsome present, spoke of the splendid training now being given at Trentham and Featherston camps, and hoped that each member of the platoon when able would find his way into the reinforcements. Throe hearty cheers were then given for Lieut. Smith, and the parade was dismissed.
