HOSPITAL SHIP FUND
FUNCTION AT HOROTIU.
In spite of the weather a very large gathering, over by Mr W. Gaukrodger. assembled at the Horotiu Hall on Friday, to raise funds for the hospital ship equipment. After a very enjoyable programme of songs, recitations and instrumental solos, a gift auction was conducted by Mr Dillon, of Hamilton. A large assortment of gifts was offered, including farm and garden prcduce ; live stock fancy goods, chldren's garments, pipes, etc. A trayful of buttonholes made by Mrs Duxfield realised a handsome amount, and two guessing competitions —one of them Miss Jacob's beautifully dressed doll, whose name was the mystery to be solved, and the other, guessing the weight of a delicious looking iced cake, donated by Miss Washer-resulted in a good sum being netted. The committee, consisting of Messrs Tarver, secretary, J. Hinton, A. Watt, R. Holmes and J. Fisher, who had worked very hard, and are to be congratulated on the success of the function, which realised over £3l.
