The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports as follows:—At W e atfield Yards on Wednesday last beef carae forward in average numbers, and first quality sold up to last week's rates, but inferiorly fatted showed no improvement. Prime quality sold to 39s fid per 1001b, others 33s to 38s, cows and heifers 31 6d to 375, steers sold at from £9 10s to £ls 17s 6d,cows £6 10s to £l2 7s Gd. Calves were yarded in average numbers, and sold at improved rates. Heavy vealers £5 to £5 17s 6d. medium weight £?, 18s to £4 15s, smaller weights 12 5s to £2 If s, others £1 to £1 18?, smell and fresh-dropped 3s to 19s. Sheep were penned age numbers, and sold at improved rates. Best wethers sold at from £1 6s 9d to £1 9s 9d, others £1 0s 9d to £1 6s; ewes, extra heavy £1 2s 6d to £1 5s 9d, light weights 14s 6d to £1 Is, hoggets 13s 6d to 19s. Pigs were penned in average numbers, and improved in price. Large baconers £3 3s to £3 19s, baconers £2 16s to £3 Ip, large porkers £1 18s to £2 19s, porkers £1 10s to £2 ss, slips 14s to £1 3s, weaners 5s to 13s. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report as follows:—On Wednesday, June 23, at our Westfield wtekly fat stock market we sold beef to the number of 416 head, comprising 305 steers, 101 cows and heifers, 10 bulls. Heavy prime and choice quality cattle were inclined to be firmer, plain and ordinary beef was easier, choice quality sold tu £1 Ks, prime quelity £1 15s to £1 18s, ordinary beef £1 5? to £1 12s, cows and heifers £1 3s to £1 14s. Steers ranged in price £8 to £l7 7s 6d; cows and heifers £4 10s to £lO 53. A truck of extra well finished steers from Mr Jas. Muir, Waerenga, averaged £l6 10s, 20 from Mr Chas. Spencer. Aka Aka, Waiuku, averaged £ls 13s 6d, 16 from Messrs Geo. and R. Hull, Otaua, averaged £l4 15a. The 59 fat and young caives were insufficient for requirements, and in consequence values were firm-r. Run-ners-sold to £6 10s, heavy suckers to £4 6s, medium suckers £2 10s to £3 ss, lighter £1 15s to £2 Ss, light £1 to £V 12s, small and fresh-dropped 3s to 18s—61 sold. Although sheep were penned in less numbers than usual there was no improvement in prices. A few pens of extra good sheep met with a firm sale, but generally the demand was weak. Extra heavy prime wethers £1 8s 6d to £1 10s. heavy prime £1 5s to £1 7s 9d, medium to heavy £1 2s 6d to £1 4s 9d, unfinished 19s to £1 2s best ewes £1 2s to £1 3s 9d, good 18s to £1 Is. others 16s to 17s 6d -1199 sold. Lambs were better worth. Best heavy 19s to £1 2s 9d, good 16s 6d to 18s 6d, lighter 13s 6d to 15s 6d —277 sold. Pigs were penned in average numbers and advanced in value on late high prices. Choppers realised up to £5 7s, no heavy baconers yarded, medium baconers £3 to £3 7s, heavy porkers £2 12s to £2 18s, medium porkers £2 6s to £2 9s, light £1 15s to £2 2s, slips 17s to £1 3s, weaners lis to 16s suckers 8s to 10s, runts Is to 5s

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Limited, have to advise having held their usual fat stock sale at Westfield on Wednesday, the 23rd inst., as follows: Beef: Moderate yarding, demand was very limited and prices were on a par with late rates Extra choice pens of prime ox sold at up to 37s per 1001b. Ordinary prime ox 32s to 34s per 100. Cow and heifer beef sold at from 26s to 335. Veal: Small yarding. Heavy runners made up to £5 10s, heavy suckers £2 189, others 3s to 28s. Mutton: Moderate yarding, poor demand. Prices were on a par with late rates. Extra heavy prime wethers made up to 34s 6d, ordinary heavy wethers 25s to 2 Q s, medium 21s 6d to 2 3s, heavy ewes made up to 18s 6d, others 12s 6d to 17s. Lamb: Small yarding. Heavy prime shorn lambs made up to 17s 9d, others 14s 6d to 15s 6d. Pork: Average yarding. Choppers made up to £4 15s. Baconers £3 to £3 12s, porker 32s to 40s, or equal to 5d per lb.

TALLOW, HIDES, ETC. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sohs report having held their weekly sale of hides, skins, wool, tallow, etc., at the Haymaiket on Tuesday, June 22, when fair average catalogues of all lines were offered. We quote:—Light ox, butcherV and freezers 9d to 9Jd, medium ox 13d to 9£d, stout ox 9£d; cow, best lines B|d to 9d, medium B|d to B£d, light and small 7£d to BJd; stags, 81d, kips, 8d to B|d; yearlings, to 9d, cut calf and yearlings, fc7d to 7id; calfskins, lOd for best, Bjd to 9d for ether good conditioned calfskins, earthy, dirty, damaged and neglected skins 5Jd to 7Jd. Sheepskins: Butchers' pinked skins to 8s 6s, medium to good 7s to 7s 9d, small and late shorn 5s 3d to fis, lambs' and tegs 5s 6d to 6s, shorn lambs 2s 9d to 3s 6d, good full wool country dried skins equal to BJd per lb. half and three-quarter wools 7d to 7£d per lb, neglected and damaged skins 4|d to 6d per lb, well salted country butchers' skins equal to local butchers' rates. Wool: Bright crossbred in bales and bags, Is to Is 2d, rough and cotted lOd to lljd, lambs', free from seed, Is to Is 2d, seedy 8d to 9Jd, pieces 8d to Bfd, dead wool 10Jd to 31 id, crutchings, selling rather well at present, in bales, 10§d to Is for clean medium and locky 9d to IOJd, in bags and fadges lOfd to 11 Jd for best, 9d to IOJd for medium. Tallow: Market easier in sympathy with London. In shipment casks 23s 6d|to 255, in barrels 20s to 22s 6d, tins and drums 2Cs to 22s 6d, good c lean mutton tallow, in tins 25s to 26s 6d. Horsehair, Is s£d to Is 7d for tail, Is 3d to Is 5d for mixed. Bones: £5 per ton.
