REPORTS IN BERLIN AND VIENNA
German Attempt to Paralyse Russia. COLOSSAL LOSSES SUSTAINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Received Juno 23, 10.20 a.m. VIENNA, June 23. Official: Lemberg has been captured. PETROGRAD, June 23. Further units from Belgium have readied Galicia, supporting the theory 'that Germany is staking everything upon the attempt to paralyse Russia so as to he fre< to deal with the general Anglo-French advance. Germany's losses in Galicia have heen colossal, but the inexhaustible stream •of soldiers is kept up. Some experts estimate that at least one-third of the German force in the west has been transferred to Galicia. They remind the public that the Austrians devoted many years to adapting the Lemberg region to serve for an eastern advance against Russia, not for purposes of defence, consequently the roads leading to the city are within the zone of the enemy artillery. Lemberg has therefore forfeited its importance as a centre oi military supplies. Some newspapers are uneasy at the possibility of Sweden declaring war.
