A testimonial, signed by 894 residents of Waihi, has been presented to the Premier expressing the heartiest appreciation of the prompt and practical manner in which he responded to the appeal for police protection from the aggressive insults and threatening behaviour of the militant ' strikers. Its protection was given not an hour too soon, and that even now a peaceful life was utterly impossible without an adequate police force. 1

The Mayor, on behalf of the citizens, Mr Donaldson on behalf of various public bodies, and Mr Rudd, of the Workers' Unkra, spoke in eulogistic terms of the conduct of their guests, from the Commissioner to the rank and file, and complimented the Department of Justice on the splendid body of men, mentally, morally and "physically, whe composed the staff. A grand inarch was then formed, in which about 500 took part.
