The following letter, which has been received by the Waitomo County Council from the Public Works Department, will be greatly appreciated by the residents in the. Kawa district. The work was some time ago planned, but owing to misconception it was put off : "I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 2!h'd inst., urging that the erection of the Waipa bridge, Kawa-road, should be taken in hand as soon as possible and the work carried out by the Department. I here have to state that consideration has been given to the request, and the Minister has decided that the work of erecting the bridge should be carried out by the Council. I am, therefore, to suggest that your Council invite tenders for the work, and submit them on receipt to this office. The vote on the current year's appropriations is, as vou are aware, £SOO (on account of £4700f."
