TO-DAY'S SITTING

(Before Mr F. O'B. Loughnan, S.M.) HORSE ON A BRIDGE. A young man pleaded guilty to riding a horse over the traffic bridge at other than a walking pace, and was fined Is and 7s costs. DRIVER AND RAILWAY CROSSING. A young man named Burton pleaded guilty to driving over a railway crossing at Frankton without first having ascertained that a train was within half a mile. The accused pleaded that there was a curve at this particular spot and a tiain could not be seen 100 yards distant. Sergeant Hastie said that on this occasion the train crashed into the cart driven by .Burnett and as a consequence the horse had to be destroyed. The Bench said that the collision had served as a deterrent to a further offence, arid fined him 5s and 7s costs. DRUNKENNESS.

A first offender pleaded guilty to being found drunk on Saturday night and was discharged with a caution.

Sergent Hastie mentioned that the car was travelling at between 20 and 30 miles an hour on a dark night, the vehicle having insufficient lights. Mr Hume, who appeared for the aeeus,ed, said that his client was taking a passenger to Frankton to catch a train, and that the lights were burning at the start of the journey. His Worship said that this was no excuse for endangering the lives of passengers, and imposed a fine bf £2.
