CRICKET.
HAMILTON UNITED DEFEATS MORRINSVILLE. Cricketers were not favored with exactly ideal weather on Saturday, but the conditions were not by any means bad, as with the exception of a very light shower rain held off throughout the afternoon. Taken all round, the form displayed was fairly good, and promises well for later in the season, when the players have had time to get in the necessary amount of practice. With the opening of the season being late this year owing to the unfortunate delay in the preparation of the local pitches, the Hamilton Club journeyed to Morrinsville on Saturday with a comparatively weak eleven. After an interesting contest the visitors secured their first win of the season by defeating the home te.am by an innings and eight runs. Morrinsville went to the wickets first and compiled Bl', running up 33 in their second attempt. Hamilton responded with 72 after a meritorious showing. the visitors W. Pomeroy (19) and Roberts (13) showed good form while at the wickets. BTSLEY SHOOTING. Received October 20, 5.15 p.m. SYDNEY, October 18.
