(Received Sept. 13, 8.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept, 13. In the House of Assembly the Parliamentary Elections Bill, dealing with alterations and extensions to the Franchise was • ire-introduced. The Liberals strongly opposed it claiming that it would mean the delay of the general elections for a year. Mr Wood agia.in' came in conflict with the Speaker and was removed frarn the House.

DECREASE IN £RIME

The decrease in crime is shown in the following figures : In 1881 the arrests for assault per million of the population were 2170 ■, last year they were <514. The figures for larceny are 3801 in 1882 and 1330 last year. Other crimes show a corresponding decrease.
RIFLE CORPS
(Received Sept. 14, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 14. Of 13,108 members of the New iuuth Wales civilian rifle clubs' musketry courses proved that 12,315 or 94 per cent are efficient. This proves that the year's percentage is 90.
KNIGHT OF ST. GEORGE

The captain of the steamer Knight of St. George, writing to the agents on September 1 states siates that he can salve £IO,OOO worth of cargo if the weather fcolds# and will probably land all general cargo within a week. He attributes the disaster to volcanic disturbances causing a tidal wave which set the vessel nine miles out and ahead of her course in an hour and a half.

The Speaker's autocratic ruling in the Assembly continues to apply fuel for continuous bickerings. His defence against persistent, heckling is that be is acting on Ms autßority, with the added hint that if members persist he will have to take notice of them.
